  for some reason i found myself shaking my head once again in disbelief at the story in genesis.. amongst all things, the very concept of a "flaming sword" spinning around and blocking the "entrance to the garden of eden" is so stupid!.

  do people really believe that as a fact?.

  seriously, swords were not even invented at that time!

  had the misfortune of stopping by the "regional" convention yesterday.

  i promised my daughter i would come to sunday afternoon so she wouldnt have to ride home with her mother.... holy crap it was weird!

  im sure all of this has been covered on the forum but to actually see it.... just wow.

  Some prayers really annoy me

  i realize that prayer is a really personal thing, but representing a group in prayer has become so full of cliche's that i just want to vomit sometimes.

  co week almost every prayer has the phrase "special week of activity" in it.. then there's "please look after the sick and afflicted.".

  not so much anymore, "please bless this food and the hands that prepared it.".

  Many ended their prayers this way: "We ask these things through the merits of your son, our ransom, king and redeemer Jesus Christ." I could count on it being said verbatim by several. I stopped saying amen long before I left the cult.

  I tried the whole "clean and scrub store floors all night'' to support pioneering. I knew very soon it was madness. I was eternally tired, miserable, sick from the propane fumes the buffer put off and generally hated life. The Presiding Overseer as he was called then was the boss and he really held it over your head. I learned to hate the slave driver who had the new house, new car, beautiful family that he never studied with even though he took all the family study parts on the meetings and Circuit Assemblies. What a fraud. Karma's a bitch though. His trophy wife dumped his ass, his son married and his wife cheated on him leading to divorce, the other son was in Bethel and was kicked out for fornication which he hid in the home congregation before he even left for Bethel.

  I went to landscaping on my own and slept better and made better money. Best of all I didn't have to deal with that fraud.

  Hey Bunji, just wondering if you were in the Borg back then. In our congregation there were a greater number of college educated people. I think it made a difference for them. These generally didn't fall for it. Most all others did. I suppose everyone on some level had their week of two of wondering, but on the whole our hall wasn't so gullible. As I look back, vary few are still Witnoids. Was your hall all in on the fiasco?? 1976 we had many, many go inactive. I did, but not because of disappointment, it was because I knew they were full of crap all along. The way they treated the people who put their hopes in the baseless prediction and made such ominous sacrifices, was shameful. I gave them the finger and left.

  What is your happy or comforting memory from your childhood?

  when i think of my childhood i tend to organize my memories based on the houses i lived in.

  the house i remember the most was the house on the hill when i was 6. i can still picture it in my mind.

  it had a big porch with a porch swing.

  Whenever I did something outrageous and funny as a boy, my mom would say my name followed by "you idiot". She never said it to me without a laugh. She actually did that all my life. After she died I wondered why I would say it to myself on occasion. I came to realize it wasn't negative, it was a source of comfort because it brought back my mom to me. I would gladly be her idiot if she were here with us once again. I have a feeling I have just opened the floodgates of posters calling me "you idiot". Oops.

  Some back then believed 1975 would be it, many didn't. Those who denied 1975 bragged how spiritual they were because "No man knows the day or hour" and "they" didn't believe it. Those who fell for it, fell hard. Most of those left because it was a fraud. Oddly enough, I think more who knew it was a falsehood left because they were critical thinkers and knew it was BS all along and saw how the GB treated those fools who were so easily persuaded. It was a shameful time for the cult. Now they continue the whitewash and its easier because new converts have no point of reference. They do have snappy music videos though.

  you name it, i was visible all over the region.

  i was the coordinator, on the convention committee, rbc, had a talk at every convention and assembly, regular pioneer, etc.

  If you teach someone that it is godliness never to eat again, that person may stay faithful to the doctrine but fail to realize that the hunger pangs are not simply a sign of religious fervor, they are signs of an impending death. The WT keeps men with responsibilities so busy that they don't realize they are destroying their life, killing them slowly with frustration and a sense of never doing enough despite sacrificing all they are on the altar of the GB. You will finally start to recover when you dump the influence of the oral poison of the meetings to achieve clarity of mind. Thank goodness your son had sex and exposed the double standards of the WT in your life. Only forward, ever forward. Go to the light grasshopper.
